Reserved legal activities - Cyprus framework

This article provides a short overview of the reserved legal activities in Cyprus.


According to the Advocate's Law (Cap. 2) ("the Law"), certain activities can be performed by registered lawyers only.

According to article 2 of the Law, such activities are the following:


(a) the appearance before any Court on behalf of any person or the Republic;


(b) the preparation or review of any pleading on behalf of a client;


(c) the registration of trademarks or patent patents and the appearance before any administrative authority for the aforementioned purposes;


(d) the drafting, revision, amendment of any memorandum or articles of association of any company of any form or of any application, report, declaration, proxy statement, decision or other document relating to the formation, registration, incorporation, reorganisation or dissolution of any legal person;


(e) the registration of ships and the drawing up of any document that refers to the creation, transfer, alteration or cancellation of any right on a ship as well as the appearance before the competent authority for this purpose;


(f) the opinion on any legal matter submitted to the lawyer;


(g) the drafting or review of any document registered with the Court for administration purposes under the Administration of Estates Law.
